Ryan: Past- Although Alexander Graham Bell is known for creating the telephone he was not the first one to create the device. But he was the first person to paten the telephone. Elisha Gray was actually the first person to create the telephone. But He was slow to act not knowing that Alexande Graham Bell was working on creating the telephone. Elisha Gray did not paten the telephone in time. Alexander Graham Bell was the first person to paten the telephone leaving Elisha Gray in the dust. So that is why Alexander Graham Bell is known for creating the telephone.
Who invented this invention? The telephone was invented by Alexander Graham Bell and his assistant Thomas A. Watson. He came up with the idea at his summer home in Brantford, Ontario, Canada, but built the first telephone in Boston, Massachusetts. By 1878, Bell had set up the first telephone exchange in New Haven, Connecticut. By 1884, long distance connections were made between Boston, Massachusetts and New York City.
When was it invented? They invented the telephone on March 10, 1876. March 10, 1876 was also the first succesful test of the telephone. The first time ever the telephone had successfully worked was when Alexander Graham Bell talked to Thomas A. Watson (who was in the other room) through the telephone. His famous words he said to him were "Mr. Watson come here I want to see you". To his astonishment Thomas Watson walked over to the other room to then realize that Mr. Bell and him had succesfully tested the first telephone. The invention was patented on January 30, 1877.
Alex: Present - In life today, the telephone has made life on Earth so much easier. Imagine a world where you cannot pick up your home phone or cell phone and call someone. Imagine how different today's world would be without the telephone. It would be a much harder world! You could not contact distant relatives or even text friends. You could not call your mom to come pick you up from the park. Think of how many times you use your telephone in one day. For some people it could only be a few times, but for the majority, it is commonly and sometimes excessively used. Today more and more features are being added to the telephone, like Siri, the helpful device that answers questions and accomplishes tasks upon the sound of your voice. Applications and other features of new devices, like the iPhone 5, are continuosly being revolutionized to be the best product possible. The telephone is a major part of today's society.
Which invention do you think deserves the "Impact Tomorrow" Award for communications technology from the 1800s?
The telephone obviously deserves the "Impact Tomorrow" Award for communications technology from the 1800s because the telephone revolutionized communication. Imagine a world where you cannot pick up your home phone or cell phone and call someone. Imagine how different today's world would be without the telephone. It would be a much harder world! You could not contact distant relatives or even text friends. You could not call your mom to come pick you up from the park. Telephones have made life on Earth for us so much easier. They are constantly being revolutionized with new features. Telephones have made an impact on our lives today. We know that they will make an impact tomorrow.
Why do you believe this invention had the greatest impact on communication today?
The telephone had the greatest impact out of all communication technology inventions on communication today because now we can talk with people thousands of miles away like we are face to face. As other inventions are great and improved communication technology growth, the telephone did that and so much more. This is why the telephone is the most significant and important invention today.
James: Future- The telephone in the future is what I predict to be smaller than a computer will the ability to do what a computer can do. You don't know what might come next but you can make an educated guess. Maybe a hologram or personal assistant better than siri, which is an app on the iPhone. There could also possibly be a smaller chip, or something completely different.
How did it change communication in the 1800s?The telephone changed how people lived daily. In the beginnning only several people had the telephone. In the 1800's Alexander Graham Bell created the telephone. It all started out with strings and cans. Innocenzo Manzetti created the speaking telegraph in 1844. The process kept going on in which the speaking telegraph would slowly transform into the telephone. Then finally in 1877 the first telephone line was created and people could talk long distances.
How has this invention affected communication today? The invention of the telephone has gone very far making many rich. People can talk over millions of miles away. Using different inventions people can talk to each other through social networks. The usage of social networks has also made many people rich. People can work from their phone and not have to move. Many have become addicted to what the telephone has brought forward. All of which come from the very beginning of the telephone. Now sending messages to people over a mass text has become simple. The birth of forwarding has been viral for years because of group texts. You can talk to each other through face time which you can see each others faces and what they are doing. One can be in Maine and the other in California and you can see each other without having to fly or drive.
